Bio

I’ve been a part-time professional freelance writer since I published my first article on appropriate technology education with RAIN: Journal in 1985. Since then, I’ve published work with the likes of The Harvard Business Review, BioCycle, Huffington Post, The Philadelphia Inquirer, TalkingWritingGetUnderground, Resource RecyclingBuzzWorm, etc. I was also a contributing editor to InBusiness (the 2nd best sustainability publication of all-time) for over a decade. My freelance work came on top of environmental planning and management consulting projects I worked on for 30 years with government, business, and nonprofit clients.

These days I’m mostly focused on writing fiction. My debut novel, Old Music for New People, (The Story Plant), is available in print and as an e-book at all major book stores on the internet. Also, over the past few years, I’ve published a number of short and flash stories on-line and in print journals around the country. A collection of many of those stories will be published in 2025. My next novel, Sound Effect Infinity, is a science fiction about altered states, the mystery of loud guitar music, and the CIA’s clandestine psychological warfare research beginning in the 1950s going all the way up to the present day (and beyond). It will be published in March of 2024. You can pre-order it now in all the places online (just look near the top right of this page for the link). I am already at work on another book that, with luck of Afro-Irish Quakers everywhere, will be published by The Story Plant in 2025.

On a personal note, I’m the proud father of three adult sons who continue to amaze me every week. One is a program director with a pretty large media technology company; another is a retired professional baseball player in the middle of shifting gears; and our youngest is creative director for a tech start-up as well as an animation screenwriter in Los Angeles and film maker. I made parenting my top priority from the age of 30 to 55. Twenty-five years of herding three boys around Philadelphia will always be the greatest accomplishment of my life.

Lastly, there are two things that allow me to believe life is good no matter what: music and baseball. If it weren’t for those two things (and true love, of course), I don’t think I would have made it very happily this far in life

      But the Phillies…

…and the Braves. And for that matter the Pirates. I’ve also developed a tremendous love for both the Oakland A’s and the Tampa Rays. Baseball passion is an infinite super power that can expand and morph and grow in ways that boggle the mind if you get to be on the inside for even a short while.
